Shivoham
(Vishwaguruji's lecture, Hungary 1991)
Listen to this song, sing it, and identify yourself with it – know that you are that 'one.' And it is 100% true – you are that 'one'.
ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM
I am that pure consciousness, Shivoham, Shivoham.
VAHI ATMA SATCHITANANDA ME HU This is very pure – I am that atma, the true-bliss-consciousness.
AMAR ATMA SATCHITANANDA ME HU I am the immortal one.
If you are immortal, then why are you afraid? Immortal means everlasting, undestroyable, happy, joyful, no one can kill you. No element can destroy you – not fire, water or earth… nothing. Even death has no power over you. And that immortal atma is yourself. I am talking to you all!
You are that divine but the difference is that you do not yet know it practically – only theoretically. I am telling you that you are divine and immortal, and now you know intellectually that you are divine and immortal. But if 20 wild tigers were to jump into this room, what would you do? All the 'immortal' ones would run away!
That is the difference between theory and practice. Even a gram of practice is a thousand times better than theory. Try to identify yourself with this song and develop this within you.
ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM
I am that pure consciousness. I am that soul which is SATCHITANANDA. Sat is truth, chit is consciousness, and ananda is bliss. Sing it and feel it – open your heart.
ŚIVOHAM ŚIVOHAM... I am that one, I am that one, I am that one.
I am that consciousness, that pure consciousness – I am the liberated one.
VAHI ATMA, that atma, that soul – satchitananda, true conscious bliss – me hu, I am.
Who says this? Your inner self. "I am that one, I am that one, which cannot be destroyed, cannot die." AMAR ATMA – which does not die, immortal. I am that – Shivoham.
Place your right hand on your chest and feel your heart. There is someone speaking within you and saying – I am that pure consciousness. I am satchitananda atma. I am immortal. I will never die and that I am! I am not afraid. No one can make me unhappy anymore. With this feeling, close your eyes, keep your palm on your chest, and sing ŚIVOHAM, ŚIVOHAM...
This is Vedanta teaching – to become the master of yourself, to become independent, to give others support, help and knowledge. So never be unhappy, never be afraid. What could happen?
Now, atma identifies itself with something different. With what? Something very interesting...
VAHI ATMA....
AKHIL VIŚVA. Akhil means entire and vishva means the whole universe. Param means the main, supreme, its own and that atma, my atma is the atma of the whole universe. It means all are equally that, ants and elephants, animals and humans, trees and any living beings. All who are living are the soul of the universe and a yogi realises this in Self-realisation, samadhi. The first realisation is this – I am the soul of all.
It is the highest atma of the entire universe and it is the atma of all living entities. I am that atma. I am in all. One in all and all in one. All are coming from one and returning to one.
VAHI ATMA ....
Atma is immortal, what is dying, changeable, is the body. It is that atma which is hidden in every living being. It is nice, very, very nice. When you realise this, you will no longer be afraid of anything, not even serious illness or death.
So, feel it. When you sing this, concentrate on your body and soul, place your palm on your chest. If you can't singc, then feel it, feel that you are immortal The body is changeable, don't worry about your body.
VAHI ATMA ....
It says again that you should feel it completely, that no emptiness remains. No emptiness should be there; complete realisation. It is said again to be more sure, because some people are still afraid.
JISE ŚASTRA KATE – That atma cannot be cut by any weapons: no knife, sword, gun or bomb.
NA AGNI JALAVE – No fire can burn it, no matter how hot.
BUJHAVE NA PANI – Water also cannot destroy it.
NA MRITYU MITAVE – Nor death can remove it.
No weapon, fire, water or death. I am that atma!
VAHI ATMA ....
Some more identification. Even in each and every star that atma, my atma is shining. In the Sun and in the Moon is my atma, through here the Sun and Moon are shining. It is my atma! I am in each and every planet and star, and I am in the Sun and the Moon.
VAHI ATMA ....
And it is still not finished...
It is everywhere present, in each and every atom that atma is living.
NAHI TINO KALO ME HO NAŚA JISKA – that atma cannot be destroyed in the three times; it means past, present and future. It was, it is and it will be. It is immortal, everlasting. And for a yogi, heaven and hell are just nothing because that atma is limitless, and heaven and hell are limited. It is beyond the hell and heaven. You are everywhere and you are happy.
VAHI ATMA ....
It is saying again: That atma is ajar, which means not born, and amar means it will not die. Because they who are born will die and those who are not born cannot die. The body is born, not atma. Atma is unborn and it will not die, it is immortal. This has been declared in the holy Vedas and holy scriptures. And the same knowledge I am telling you now has been transmitted from God Krishna to his disciple Arjuna. What did Krishna tell to Arjuna? You are the atma. SATCHITANANDA AMAR ATMA.
So, tonight, for the whole night, you should be aware of your immortality and while going to sleep mentally repeat Shivoham, Shivoham. And come to yoga, because the yogi is that one who discovers the atma. There is no philosophy of the world that discovered the atma till today, only one, the highest philosophy, Yoga Vedanta, which is free, divine, and self-mastering; it is the science of the Self.
God bless you, God protect you and be immortal!
